looking at s80 vs s70
I recently repaired a laundry list of issues on a 1999 s70 turbo, its now going back to my son at school. I did have fun and learned a bit about s70 model, might look at a 1999 s80 with about 190k. Whats the difference in the models. the s70 had the 5 cyl, the s80 has a 6 cyl. What are the things to watch for in this model. Are s80 AWD. Is the heater core prone to leak, do the motor mounts wear quick, timing belt how long should it last. ABS was not working on the s80 but the brakes had been done. Well if you have time let me know whats up thanks

Buy an S70. I have a friend with an S80 and he hates it and has to get work done on it all the time. I bought a 1998 S70 GLT and besides having the normal nuances (motor mounts, drivers window switch cleaning, dash rattle) it is an awesom car. Now the S80, all kinds of issues with Check Engine Light, coolant Leaks, heater core, subframe mounts, radiator. and DO NOT i repeat DO NOT get a 1999 S80 anything...

s80
Hi there..just want to try to help for your s80 vs s70....I have an s80..2003..2.9
non-turbo..just paid off that sucker..:)..haven't had any major problems..the usual..O2 sensor, trunk lock, light bulbs and yes engine mounts..had 2 of them replaced last week, one was collapsed the other broken, altogether with synthetic oil change, coolant flush and the mounts..$563..hope I don't see the inside of a repair shop for a long time now..like the other guys say..don't buy any s80 earlier than 2002 !!! Good luck with your decision .....take care |
If you want to buy a S80 stay away from the 99-01 models because they have transmission problems along with other problems. I have a 99 S80 and I had to replace the transmission at 114k miles at a cost of $4000. The 2002 and newer models are the better ones. The S70 is a great car.
