more s80 problems...
 

I have a few questions about my 99 S80 T6...
1. Recently whenever I turn the wheel, such as pulling into/out of a parking space I hear a creaking noise. I had an old car that did this and was told the ball joints needed replaced, could that be what it is? If so, how much does that cost.

2. When I apply the brakes at a lower speed I also hear a creaking noise, but different than the one discribed above. They both started around the same time so Im not sure if they're related.

3. Im starting to experience a shutter when my car shifts gears, which I have heard many other people talk about. I havent found any real answer to what it is though. I asked the dealer about it and they said i could possibly need a software upgrade but I would have to bring it in for more diagnostics. Any idea what that could be? Im hoping its not the transmission going out.

Thats all the questions for now...but Im sure a few more problems will pop up in a few days knowing my car.

hi nick,, just went thru that went my piece o junk s80.... it started as a shudder when shifting,, at that time no check engine was on,,,
after putting up with it for about 7-8k mis, my check engine light was staying on all the time,,, then it got to the point where the engine would lose
power really bad, would not rev past 4000rpm..... autozone checked the engine light codes as 1171/1181, which was
some kind of nonspecific 'manufacturere specific code'...... i eventually took the car to an independant Volvo shop, they replaced a bad 'air flow meter' and
cleaned the throttle body and the car runs fine now...... total bill was $360 (airflow meter=208+tax, labor=140)
i have heard of other s80 owners that took their car to a Volvo dealer and were told the transmission was bad and got gouged for around $4000,, still had the
same problem,,, tough luck once they have your money....

Mine shutters bad when accelerating mild to hard. The dealer has upgraded the software, reset the adative whatever with no change. I am now told it is normal and some of them just do that. My warranty is almost up and I am scared to keep it in fear of a huge repair bill.

question for anyone that can answer it,

I own a 2001 volvo s80 t6, now when i use to put it in neutral the car would rev as far as i wanted,(i would only rev it in the white area, never went red), and now recently when I rev the car it stops at 4.5 thousand rpms. It wont go any further, no matter how far I bear down on the accelerator. Its fine when driving.

That is called your REV limiter. It stop there so you won't blow the engine.
It might have changed with the last software upgrade.

I see, i did get the free ETM/ECM software, that sucks cuz i liked listening to the high revs lol...

Check the spring seats and sway bar links.

Can the sway bar links be replaced by mere humans or does it require super mechanical know how and stamina only found at $60-70/hour??

I've got this REALLY nice car and it just keeps on costing me $$$$!

You can change them they are easy. 2 nuts on each side and they are off.
