Need Timing Belt and Crankshaft Seal Replacement Guides
 

I need help finding instructions on how to replaced the crankshaft seal and the timing belt on a 1999 Volvo S80 2.9L.

i was wondering the same(the cam/crank seals) that come with the kits. how do you replace them??

Which crankshaft seal do you need to replace? If you are a competent mechanic, this job isn't too complicated as long as you have tools and patience. For the seal on the left you would have to take the timing belt off, but the seal on the right requires you to separate the trans and the block which is an involved job. As to porkchop, the cam seals are just as hard to do. This involves keeping the timing correct as well as breaking down the top end. As said before, these jobs should be left to a mechanic, unless you have the special tools volvo requires to get the job done. I can fax you the pages in the manual I have or go buy a manual off fcpgrotn for 30 bucks.

thanks for the insight jriggs87, i was wondering because some of the kits come with it, and i guess, until i do mine in the spring, i won't know if they are leaking or not.

Thank you for offering to fax my the info. I do not have a fax machine, I don't suppose you can scan and put them in a pdf and email it? I you can please include the special tool that are needed. My friend tells me that when he adds oil he sees it leaking out from underneath the car from the left (passenger) side of the engine. I tool a look myself and I could see a lot of oil behind the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer). I don't know if it's leaking from either cam seal, the left crankshaft seal of between the head and block. I do not think it's leaking from the valve cover or the oil pan. Running/driving the car only pushes the oil out faster. Thank you again.

Scanning the pages are a no-go. Like I said it may be beneficial to buy a repair book although the haynes I bought isn't as detailed as I'd hoped. For locking the camshafts in place and doing any work involving the timing belt or cams/ volvo tools 999 5452, 999 5754, 999 5453, and 999 5454 are required. Depending on the price of these tools, it might be more cost effective to have a specialist do the job, since you would hopefully do this job only once, the tools afterwards would be useless. If I can copy some pages from the book I would be willing to mail them. But I'd be mailing almost half the book, you need the remove the whole pulley system to get to the crank seal. Cam seals are easier to get to, but I see no point in paying 100s of ucks in tools for 20 bucks in seals. I'd just buy performance cams and a tune if you've got the money!! Lol

That's always a plus! Now you know it won't have to be done for a long time and if something goes wrong on the car take it back to the dealer and ask them what they did wrong.
