New key
Hey guys,
I've been researching for a new key for my 2000 T6. Apparently since it's a security key, a dealership has to laser-cut the key for you and then you bring the car in and get the key/car programmed to accept each other. This whole process is approximately $200 (125 to laser cut the key, plus about 75 dollars for 30-45 mins of labor to program)!! [:o] Does anyone know of any possible way to cut down the cost to a more reasonable figure...or is this what i get for buying a "safe" car? [&:] -about to be really poor :( |
RE: New key
You might be able to get a key on e-bay but be very careful there is 4 diffrent keys that look the same. But they are only for a certain car.
That sounds about right on the price.$125.00 for the key software $35.00 and a half hour labor. |
RE: New key
What do they mean when they say "software." I'm not buying any software, i'm buying a key. What are they charging for? Thanks

RE: New key
When they program the key they have to download software to program the car. Then it sends the information from your car to sweden and the info is stored there in a computer.Anytime something has to be programmed it requires a software download.

RE: New key
Yes it is kind of a weird process but that is how they have it.
