Hi! Im Erik, Im 19 and from Wisconsin. I just bought a 1999 volvo s80 t6. It has 120k on it and I was wondering what I should look for in terms of maintenance. I bought it from an independent volvo mechanic. It has a new timing belt and the serp. belt will be replaced soon. Other than that, I would Like to know how to take care of it. I want to care for it on the cheap, but ill pay if I need too. I work for an Audi dealership and none of the mechanics there know what to do with it. What do you guys suggest? Should I have a volvo dealer look at it and start a maintenance schedule? Also, one of the key fob's battery is dead, can I just replace it or do I need it reprogrammed? Thanks in advance!

since you work at a dealer you should know NOT to take your volvo to the dealer - seriously...

call volvo usa and give them the VIN get info on past recalls and if you are up to date, put in synthetic oil, premium gas, get the tranny drained and filled with filter replacement, change the plugs yourself, thats about it for starters, if you wanna spend more money or do the work yourself replace the brake fluid, and coolant, basically all that fun stuff !! good luck, should have bought a honda if you want cheap maintenance

You might want to replace the PCV system on your car. Volvos with age usually have some blockage and can eventually lead to blowing rear main seal. I would change plugs, wires, air filter and pollen filter. Check your transmission fluid. If it looks dark or smell a little burnt, then change it. These cars are normally reliable as long as they are upto date on their maintenance. If the car came from a TECH, then it should be a good car! If you are looking for parts, this website is an alternative to the Stealership. Since you work for one, then you know the premium you pay on parts and labor, unless you can order the parts thru your parts department, that way you can get your cost plu 10% or whatever it is. When I worked for the Honda dealer here in town, I always bought parts thru the parts dept. since the discount was cost plus 10%. One last thing, enjoy your Volvo. ^ what wires ? we use coils

Yeah coils, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, clean the PCV, check the MAF, check the radiator (mine was replaced at 90k)

I keep forgetting about coils. My 850 is oldskool technology with wires. I always forget that.
