New Noise

Just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this problem. Over the past few days, I've noticed a gurgling sound coming from behind the dashboard after the vehicle engine is shut down. The sound can best be described to a coffee pot finishing its percolating process. First question is, what is that sound? Is this something I should be concerned about? Lastly, any idea how much it's going to cost to fix?

Thanks,
Gonzo

That sound you hear may be air in the heater core. The coolant is trying to push through the heater core and there are air pockets in the coils. You may have to bleed your cooling system to purge the air.

tech, does this sound like it could be the problem? If so, do our S80's have a bleeder screw (usually near the thermostat housing on the engine)?

Gents,

I have a 1999 S80 T6 with just over 75000 miles. I am not the orginal owner, but I just had the 75K service done.

Thanks,

Gonzo

It really doesn't sound like thats what it is.The S80's do not have any bleeder screws. When you refill the coolant fill the bottle all the way to the top install the cap.Test drive the car six miles then retop it off.

When this happens do you have the A/C on in the car?If the A/C was on it might be the expansion valve.

A/C is definitely on...

It might be the expansion valve going bad.The have like a screen in there if something gets in there it sometimes makes noise.I mean like a metal having from the compressor.I would not worry about it at the moment.
Most of the time it is more trouble then it is worth to replace it.

Also see if it does it with the A/C off.

I'll check it with it off to see if I get the same results, if not, I'll inquire about replacing it next time it gets serviced. Thanks for the info.
