Default Newbie looking to for seasoned advice...

This afternoon, I test drove a 1999 S80 here in Columbus. Private owner, about 115k miles. Priced under $4k.

Seemed like a good idea until I started Googling and reading, leading me here.

Now I'm beginning to think that I might be buying someone else's headache. The driver's window does not function properly, on the dash there's a warning message related to a light.

Other than these two minor issues and the opinions on the net, I was ready to make an offer. Now I'm questioning.

So, if you had it to do over again (or if you were in my newbie shoes) would you?

nope . anything below 2005 i would never buy it. i have heard of sooo many problems. i have a 2006 and i love it . No problems whatsover. So if you are looking for S80 look 2005 onwards. Dont buy the one you are looking for

Default >2005 Dirt??

I’m not sure why you think anything old then 2005 is dirt but I have a 2002 and could not be happier. The light message is just because one of the light bulbs is out and the driver window problem could probably be from getting wet, you maybe able to take care of that just by cycling power to the battery. You should be able to get the car under $2,500 tho.

ya i didnt mean like all cars below 2005 sucks...i m sure there are people who own S80s below 2005 and are driving perfect ..its just that u i have heard lotta problems coming from years below 2005 but that doesnt mean ALL cars will be bad. hey if u get the car inspected from a good mechanic and he approves it then ya u should get it. But there is always that stigma that will be carried around when u sit on older S80.

The only thing that worried me about the 2000 we had was the transmission...
