newbie, please help removing heater core
sup yall
been driving my 1999 s80 for 4 months now, love it after a week of ownership i noticed a funny of either oil or coolant coming from the vents when ever the heater was on about 2 weeks ago started noticing that the floor on the driver side was a little wet figured it must have been from me due to walking across the grass well guys, 2 days ago a big puddle appeared on the passenger side did some research......and started to remove the heater core I actually got the pins out, pipes pushed to the side and heater core out half way but, it just wont clear a little black box connected to the brake pad believe me i searched but couldnt find reasonable release for it and knowing me id break that little plastic thing and would end up having to tow it to the dealer now i dont consider myself clumsy, but, im not a mechanic either i play football for my high school but i dont think brut force is whats needed for this issue please help pictures would be great:confused: thanks alot:rolleyes: |
Maybe it is hitting the brake light switch?
Those are a pain to get out without breaking them. There is 2 tabs you would have to compress to get the switch out. |
the steering column gets in the way too. you have to drop it the column and swing it as far left as you can go to sqeeze the heater core out. its very tight in there but possible.

hey guys
thanks for the help well i finally saved up enough money for a new heater core and went to work on the car yesterday i did managed to pull out the brake relay (with out breaking it) but im afraid i need some more help on how to "drop the steering column" and swing it out of the way???? thanks tech and raygnlz something about fixin cars make a guy feel like.........a lion. |
There is 2 screws that hold it to the dash area up towards the front you have to remove the cover around the steering column. Also under the dash kind of by where the switch was there is a screw that goes like through the column and slides as well. Remove the long bolt then it will drop down some. You might also want to remove the knuckle from the floor board.
I never take any of that apart though. |
