NGK Continued - Changed Plugs today
Well I took off the black plastic Volvo cover to get access to the coil packs and the plugs. After I romved the bolts the cover comes off and I see a bit of oil laying around in there? So I chock it up to left over spillage that could have been there from the many oil chages she's seen in 230k + miles. Pop off the first coil pack and remove the first plug... ::Fried::...next plug....::Fried::....Needless to say every single plug (all 6) WERE burnt out. They were NGK BKR6EIX plugs which are the eguivelent to the V-Power BKR6E plugs I replaced them with except the IX desiginates "iridium" on the NGK plugs. Back to the main concern at hand: There was oil in the first three (from drivers to passangers order) plug holes before I removed the plugs. They weren't full but there was probably a 1/4" worth of oil down there? I sucked all the oil out with a shop vac then went around the insides of the holes with shop towels to make sure they were dry before removing and replacing the plugs. Is this something I need to be concerned about? I couldn't see where any was leaking from with the car running? possibly the oil cap going bad since there was a little more oil over there on the head cover and in the hole than farther towards the passangers side? Possible overflow from oil changes or is there a gasket or seal I neeed to replace?

I'm not sure about Volvos (came from a long line of Nissans) but on Altimas the valve cover was notorious to leak and oil would leak down into the plug tubes. It was a fairly simple process to replace the valve cover seal and problem was solved.

I will be replacing my spark plugs on my 99 s80 with 132k miles very soonand would anyone recommend that I replace the coil packs and the filler cap gasket also. I have been shopping around for the coil packs online and i just cant seem to find them.

IMO I wouldn't replace the coil packs unless you were having problems. The gasket jlewis pointed me to above for the filler cap is only like $2.17 so I will definately be replacing mine. You are probably ok unless you see oil down there like I did, but for only a couple dollars why not? Just my 2 cents

Any ideas why all plugs were burnt? Poor maintaince or something else?
