o brother!

Hey tech,

Was accellerating on the high way in 2nd gear using tip tronic i got to about the 4-6 thousand rpm range(I was turboing it), and my check engine light flashed 3 times, when i saw it flash the first time i slowed down and it went away after the third flash... i turboed it up to the same point and it never came back on....Is this in relation to when i fudged my turbos? is it sound like those intercooler tubes? I dont think there was any buckling.. Will take it to somewhere to get codes pulled tommorow... In the meantime any guesses at what it could be?

RE: o brother!

ok got the codes - P0305 ?? said 5 misfires in cylinder 5??? The guy there said that it may need some spark plugs, and asked if i did my major maintainence... Im going to be doing it on friday(60k major service by volvo).... Do you think he's right?

Also my emmission system service message is on and my check engine light is on....

RE: o brother!

The check engine light flashing means a Missfire. When was the last tune up done?
It might also be the coil pack. They are known to go bad.

The 60k will cost you about $350.00 to $400.00 just to give you a heads up.

RE: o brother!

when i get the tune up on friday, i was quoted at 599$, is there a way to negociate them lower? I have them down to 509.95$ because of an inconveince-they had my car for 3 weeks almost- how can i bargain them down lol?

Also My service light came on at 55,000 miles, I reset it because I was gonna do it at 60,000 miles exactly but due to the sloppy driving feeling im gettin i can sense it needs the tune up at 58,500 miles....

Do you know how much it will cost for the cylinder missfire problem? How much for the does the coil kit with labor usually run? What about if it's just the plugs(cost) with labor? Do you think its just the plugs, because my last tune up was done like 32-35 thousand miles ago.

I was freaking out all day because I was assuming it was the ever so famous O2 sensor!!!! lol SO glad its not the problem....knock on wood!

RE: o brother!

The coils are pretty expensive. If you canm afford it have them replace the #5 coil. They will be there during the tune up.
If you just do the plugs it will be about 2 hours labor.
The T6 is a pain to do.
Did the Dealer do the tune up?
If so the Volvo plugs usually don't go bad like that. The coils go bad more.

RE: o brother!

Coil #5....Is that like a 1000$ or sumthing or like 300-400 dollars lol...If I replace the coil would I be better off, i dont mid dishing out extra money if its going to fix it better... I'm not sure when the last service has been done but im sure it was done... If it was the coil shouldnt I feel a power drain or something in heavy accelerations?

RE: o brother!

You will sometimes. If there was a code there for it then it is missfiring.
I think they are like $100.00 each.

NO WAY

If/When I buy one it will be a 740 Turbo.
This way I can make it what I want.

Hey one of my mechanic friends said he was unsure of whether my car (99 S80 2.9) even had spark plugs, or if it was a fully electronic ignition. Regardless, a 45k service is going to cost me about 350.00 (not that bad). What advantage does this have?

I went to Advanced Auto Parts and they tried to read/clear my SRS/Airbag code from when my fuel cell died. There OBD II reader didn't pick up any codes. Do I have to go to Volvo for this one?

RE: o brother!

i had the same problem, did he shut the car off and then read the codes? Sometimes if they do not have it in the right ignition spot it doesnt work...
Bring it somewhere else... when i got my major 30k service it felt like brand new..drove very smoothly...

RE: o brother!

I posted this before but from my understanding Volvo's and turbos eat the plugs for breakfast, I am only getting about 30 to 40000 kms out of a set. I was told it is better to buy cheaper ones and replace more often.

gordon368 03-06-2006 05:34 PM

RE: o brother!

I would stick with the original plugs made by volvo, I had a s40 which had some bosch plugs put in and it caused some coils and check engine lights to go on...so id be careful.

Yes your car has spark plugs should be replaced every 30k. I like the Volvo plugs.

Have them try to pull the codes again with the car off key on.
If not then the Dealer will have to do it. the Codes will be stuck in the CEM
