oil light

hello all. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the Volvo fam.*I have a question. im purchasing a 2006 volvo s80 for a cheap price. But there is one thing that is making me nervous. when you start car and leave it running for a few min. the oil light wilI flash off and on and say pull over with caution (or something of that sort).and oil indicator symbol will blink orange and red. is this something serious, or just a sensor? car runs good besides that. I drove it for about 30min

welcome to the club..
Not sure about the oil indicator . i would suggest checking the oil dipstick for correct level. and also check the condition of the oil . when was the last oil done and what kind of oil was put it. i say just change the engine oil and filter to specific type mentioned in your manual.

Also check to make sure all wires for the oil sensor is properly secured.

Also post your S80 here:

maybe a silly question. But where is the oil sensor

akabond 02-25-2013 04:29 PM

i think its location is behind the oil pan but screwed to the oil pan and one wire coming out from it. You might have to get underneath and look at the back side of pan ( or all sides of it :P)

But did you checked the oil level first?any oil leaks on the floor. check with the basics

This is likely bad oil pan orings or sludge caused by poor maintenance. The sensor rarely fails.

ya i was thinking of that...very common too
