P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid

Hi all, great forum. I recently received a trouble code P0740. "Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit". In looking through forums and VADIS, I'm not sure of its location or whither there are more than one. I have a 1999 S80 non-turbo.

Also, code P1618 which codekeyunlock.com indicates is "Cable fault between AW 50-Q2 TCM and Motronic 4.4 ECM (lamp lights)" Sounds like headlight issues, but I've got no problems on hi or low beam.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

TCM-002F is the Volvo DTC. There is a replacible solenoid.

The Part Number is 30681205.

There is 3 other solenoids as well for other functions.

But you might have a transmission issue.

What system was the P1618 pulled from?

I've found four codes using a inexpensive reader I picked up at Costco for $39 the brand is CodeKey. It simply reads and clears.

Code Decription
P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit/Open
P0432 Heated Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
P0422 Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
P1618 Volvo: Cable fault between AW 50-Q2 TCM and Motronic 4.4 ECM (lamp lights)

I'm in CA and never have issue with Smog, but have always had issue with the catalytic converter codes.

Also.. frequent get intermittment message about bulb outage, but highlights work fine. Go Figure. Inherited this from an Aunt and have on it 115k so far.

The P0740 is new and was accompanied with a warning and message to get service. Fluid was low.

I would get the codes pulled from a scanner that reads Volvo code to get the proper definition for the P1618.

on the V70 (XC70)..

I'm getting TCM-002f code. the xmission is getting stuck in what ever gear it is in when the CEL trips....the xmission selection in the dash blanks out on the dash....if I'm on the fwy it gets stuck in a high gear....on the street generally a low gear.....If I turn off the car, it will clear up....I did a xmission flush, but I don't think it was the problem. I did one about 18months back which did solve a 'slipping' transmission, so I did it again. I'm hoping it is something I can fix.
