Pick Up on Cam Timing Snapped Off - Thread Previously Was "Cam has Timing Piece?"

Thanks to all who responded to the thread Cam has Timing Piece?

I got clarification from the mechanic today, that it was the pick up on the cam timing, that snapped off.

Could this have happened from the timing belt being too tight? They had told me when I originally went to pick up the car that it took two people to get the timing belt on.

Or, could it have happened when the valves were damaged when it jumped time?

Any reason you can think of that this piece would have snapped off?

I appreciate your opinions!

Best,

Sherry

They are still liars.

First, if the pickup for the camshaft position sensor broke off, they would have seen this before tearing the whole head off.

Second, this wouldn't cause the belt to jump time.

Third, I am pretty sure the car won't start without a correct signal from the camshaft position sensor .

Thanks for your reply ES6T!
No one knew what a pickup for the cam was, I had talked to the Volvo Parts Dept. and a Volvo Master Tech. So, I called the mechanics once again, and found out that it was a metal sleeve that goes on the cam shaft. When they went to take it off, a tab that was holding it broke off. Is that what a camshaft position sensor is?

I'm just assuming they are talking about the pickup for the sensor. It bolts to the back of the camshaft.

They are getting it tomorrow, and I asked them to send a picture of it when it comes in.

Thanks for your comment.

Best,

Sherry

Trash sounds like they are taking about the impulse wheel that bolts to the back of the camshafts. There are no sensors around the timing belt area.

Thanks damien360,

I'll post a picture when the mechanic sends it to me tomorrow. I don't know what it is. Fingers crossed, I get the car back on Friday, with the timing done correctly.

Best,

Sherry
