Prevention and Precautions, Q's
Greetings.
I am considering trading it in, but trade-in value (KBB) barely covers my repair bills. Are there any preventative actions (other than normal maintnance) I can take to avoid major repairs? Any thoughts on transmission-fluid additives (I have used with very good results on Nissan/Toyota)? I have searched this forum, Google, Chiltons, & Haynes - is there a model specific repair manual? Lastly, should I just take the trade-in value and run? 2000 S80 T6 (built 1999), 110500 miles, purchased two months ago in Sept 2007 - Replaced: both turbos, control arms, ball joint, axle, roller control arm stop, timing belt and tensioner, and next week - replacing bent/broken valves, checking coils, throttle body and ETM. Thank you for your help. |
RE: Prevention and Precautions, Q's
With the amount of work you've had done it sounds like the car was abused in an earlier life. If it doesn't hurt too much financially I think I would trade and get rid of it and get one where you know the history.

Ouch! That's a lot of money to be spent on repair bills. With the car already at "high" mileage I would probably cut my losses and get a car that hopefully has been maintaned a little better.

Thank you for the input. I am leaning toward trading it in, but I'll get about 60% of what I have in the car. The problems I’ve had do not seem typical: debris was sucked into the engine, bolts failed - strange luck. It's hard to blame the car. Regardless I have to get it running, it’s worth nothing as-is. Thanks again.

No problem! I always buy my cars used, but I guess the risk is always there that the previous owner could have treated it like crap. My 2000 S80 has ran great and aside from some costly preventative maintenance I have no complaints. I hope everything works out for you whether you trade in the car or hold onto it. :D
