Purchased a Headache, I think: 2002 Volvo S80 2.9 P0105
 

Purchased a 2002 Volvo S80 2.9l for a pretty decent price.
I'm throwing the pending code P0105, not a stored code. The battery was dead for god knows how long.

The car will start for a second or two than shut down. If you try to start it again it sputters. I read that it may make a difference if you take the key out and try to start it again it i may try to start than shut off instead of sputtering. Either way it does not run for more than a second or two.

P0105 is Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor but I realize there is no sensor but it's built into the ECM. If I were to purchase a used ECM, which would come from eBay, is there any security setting that will need to be changed? Or does it learn on its own? Would I need to take it to a dealership or etc?

Does anyone have any other ways to verify that it is the ECM instead of just throwing money into this Volvo? Any other things I should check?

Might be another MAF Sensor victim. Use CRC MAF Cleaner and change the Air filter if it needs to be change...if it does not work, replace MAF with new or junk yard to be sure.

But Do not waste until you do not finished MAF Check.

You can also check by disconnect the MAF and start the car, if it acts same...then it is your MAF sensor.

I went thru that on my 2001 xc70, kept getting that code, cleaning it, resetting it, then finally I said, I will clean it real good with a q-tip, well I cleaned it too good, cuz it did what u are saying.
I got a new one at oriely's for about 130 bucks, Volvo wanted like 350
