re-programing an ecm
Anyone have any experience re-programing and ecm on an 07. s80 volvo, or can you recommend a reliable shop that does it. Where is it located, could not find in engine compartment but found what i thought it be under the glove compartment behind a fuse panel...
Thks.

The ECM is mounted under the cowl (plastic panel that wiper shafts stick through) near the brake fluid reservoir.
I had and evap emissions system vent valve stuck open code come up, Took lit to a local Shop and he says that the valve was good but the ecm would need to be re-programmed. Dont know if he really knew or just passing me off to somone else....
If a code is stored, an appropriate scan tool is used to ERASE the code, turning off the check engine light. The car then continues it's drive cycle, (as the car is driven) the self check of emission components. The evaporative system is is one of the last things checked during the drive cycle.
Why replace a part that you don't know is bad? Sure you might be able to save $5 on the part - but that part might not be needed, and someone already tested it and said it was ok.
Exactly what code is/was stored? And how about erasing the code and seeing how long it takes to come back, unless you need to pass an emissions test to register your car. An evap code is as serious as leaving you gas cap slightly loose -
If the car is going to a shop - they should be able to test the evaporative system. For instance if you have an evaporative leakage code you simply use a smoke machine to inject smoke into the system - to test hoses, connections, valves, gas cap -
Most of the "evap"control valves are simple on /off solenoid controlled valves. In operation - air does not flow then apply 12v = air flows. Take it off and blow through it. Does it allow air to flow with 12v attached? Does it shut off wout power?
