Recommendations for a roof top carrier?
 

My family is expanding by one more and that means more stuff to lug around when we go on trips. I would like to buy a roof top cargo box - one of the enclosed styles with a lock. Can any of you give a recommendation on which brands / models have worked and not worked for you?

No, but I've been looking for the same thing, have you found any roof racks yet? If so, where'd you get them?

I just found Volvo OEM roof racks made by Thule at www.vlvworld.com I'm going to check out Thule's web page for more info.

I took a look at them too and they're a hell of a lot cheaper then going to Thule.com and buying new ones.

I found some load bars, I just sent in an order hopefully this will all work out.

Wow. Those are half the price of what Thule wants for theirs. Were you able to find any details about the load bars such installation instructions or owner's manual? I wonder what all included with the purchase price.

I don't know if instructions are included but it should be pretty straight forward anyways and these bars are Volvo so they should fit anything Volvo or Thule makes if I understand that right.

I received my roof rack today from Steingold Volvo (good price) - they sell Volvo factory racks which have a look that seems to be styled to match the car. Nice. The mounting instructions are included with the shipment and what they show is the S80 has built in mounting points inside the rain "gutter" grooves under the plastic strip. The design is ingenius! Mounting the racks to the car is quick and the best part is there are no retainer clips that come down over the lip of the door frame. I highly recommend the factory roof rack.
