Road Noise and TSBs
Hi All,
The S80s have been praised for their quiet interiors. Maybe my expectations are too high but I get a lot of road noise (tire thrum) from my 2002 T6. Since this is my first vehicle with 17" rims I don't know if what I experience is normal or not. The car still has the stock Michelins 225/50 R17. As I was browsing through the NHTSA defects page, I noticed a TSB seemingly related to road noise, or resonance related to the springs: Service Bulletin Num : 720006 Date of Bulletin: JUL 01, 2003 NHTSA Item Number: 10002972 Component: WHEELS Summary: RESONANCE SOUND (340 HZ) CAN OCCUR FROM THE WHEEL WHICH IS TRANSMITTED VIA THE SPRING STRUT. RUBBER SPRING SEATS (INSULATOR PLATES) HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AS SERVICE SOLUTIONS. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBES HOW THESE INSULATING PLATES MUST BE INSTALLED. *TT Might this TSB be related to what I've experienced, or should I be satisfied with the good looks of the wheels yet suffer the noise? Thanks! Ed |
