S80 Buyers Guide
Hi:
I've searched and found information about which model years are better, etc, but the information was sparse. Could folks please respond and post the following: - what years are most reliable - what are some problem areas to look for - is the 2.9N/A more reliable than the Turbo models? - how has customer service at your Volvo dealer been? - are the 2004+ models worth the extra money? - how much is the Extended Warranty (some posts say $2000) and what are the terms? - other info This car is for my father, so I want to make sure he gets a safe and reliable car. Thanks in advance. |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
-Avoid 99-01 years like the plauge.
-Depends on what maintenance has been done. A used car inspection at a reputable shop is a great way to find problems w/ a car you are interested in. -Both are very reliable. Obviously the turbo versions will have more components, which always have the chance of failing. -Typically, Volvo dealers are very very good at what they do. -Yes the 04+ have fewer problems. -Don't know anything about extended warranties. -The s80's are great vehicles with lots of room and creature features. |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
I have a 2000 S80 Non-Turbo and absolutely love the vehicle. It has 60,000 miles and all maintenance has been performed, something I try to be very vigilent with. I honestly think that as long as you keep up with the routine maintenance, the S80 is as reliable a car as any. I have only had the software reloaded (highly recommmended) and normal fluid changes accomplished and it runs very strong.

RE: S80 Buyers Guide
i just purchased a warranty, i have a 01 s80 t6, and it has 65000, and the warranty ran me 3250$ for 2 years/24000 miles

RE: S80 Buyers Guide
Ouch, $3250 USD for the extended warranty? Is this from Volvo?
- Are the original warranties transferable? - If I buy a car from a non-Volvo dealer (i.e. Joe Bob's Dealer) and the car is still under the 4/50,000 factory warranty, will the warranty transfer to me? - If I buy a car from a non-Volvo dealer, can I still buy the extended warranty from a Volvo dealer? I noticed that the cars from non-Volvo dealers are significantly less than at Volvo dealers, thus the questions. Thanks |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
I bought my 2000 S80 from a Saturn dealership. The deal was too sweet to pass up, but as you astutely pointed out I did not receive any sort of a warranty. As for paying $3250 for a warranty, that's entirely too much money for that kind of coverage, unless the transmission were to crap out or something to that extent it wouldn't be cost effective. I paid $1200 for a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty for my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, and that thing has had about 3000 dollars worth of warranty work done. My Volvo has ran great for me, but I treat it great and baby the hell out of it.
I'll take my chances and do all recommended maintenance to help avoid the "worst case" scenario. |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
i have an 00 s80 t6 and its a dream machine compared to all of my other cars

RE: S80 Buyers Guide
Well since im buying it in 2006, and it has 65000 miles on it, for an older car any warranty is going to be more. Remember I just bought this 3 weeks ago. Yes $3250.00, and it was more so i knocked it down a bit in price.
Its the coprehensive coverage, best coverage the offer, and yes i bought it from the volvo delearship. 0$ deductible, 0$ for loaner, Road sided assistance(everything that triple AAA does). |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
That's cool man, the coverage certainly can't hurt any.

RE: S80 Buyers Guide
Gordon,
Did you buy your car from a Volvo dealer? And how many years / miles does the warranty cover? |
RE: S80 Buyers Guide
