S80 engine transplant / swap
 

Hi, i am new to Volvo Forums. Nice to meet you all bros.

I wish to ask about an engineering question. I wish to buy a diesel volvo s80 first generation. But i am living in a third world country named Turkey.

Our county is famous by high taxes and world's highest petrol prices in the world (no kidding).

1 usd = 2.15 Turkish liras.
1 litre of petrol : 5.15 TL
1 litre of diesel : 4.50 TL
1 litre of lpg : 3.50 TL

And all cars having luxury tax between %45 and %120 related to their engine volume, plus VATS %18.

For instance, a car with 1.6 diesel engine with 20.000 TL base price rises to : (20.000 * 1.45) * 1.18 = 34.220 TL.

And yearly taxes changes with car age and engine volume.
For instance: for 2006, 1.6 petrol civic yearly tax is 280 TL but 2006, 2.4 diesel volvo s80 is 1.600 TL yearly tax. (it's almost my monthly salary!)

A 2000-2002 petrol 2.8 volvo s80 is priced 20.000 - 25.000 TL but;
(price is ok but, too expensive for taxes and gas)

A 2004-2006 diesel 2.4 volvo s80 is priced 36.000 - 55.000 TL.
(Too expensive to buy, and moderate expensive for taxes and gas)

Petrol prices are too high, so diesel cars are ultimately expensive here. Also yearly taxes are too high for engines higher than 2.0L.

In this grim government policy, we are forced to buy smallest diesel engine possible. But i really like volvos, and even without a volvo engine, at least i wish to taste volvo interior and suspension quality in next 10-15 years.

So in this grim situation i wish to ask about an engine swap. That might save me a lot of money in future use of a volvo. (After a hell like bureaucracy.)

Ford, Hyundai and Renault diesels are common here. They are cheaper, and having low taxes.

Is it possible to buy petrol 2.8 volvo s80 and transplant a 1.6 or 2.0 diesel ford or hyundai engine to it? Is it possible to use same transmission with new diesel engine? I thought 2.8 petrol s80's transmission is enough durable for 1.6 diesel engine. But i know engine swapping from different brands and models are really hard.

Any suggestion or information helps.
