S80 Rear Caliper Removal (2008)
Is there a trick to being able to get an impact wrench or breaker bar with extension on the rear caliper mounting bolts? Do I need to remove the rear springs or strut/sway bar? Everything seems to be in the way. What I thought was going to be a quick job is turning into a multi-day experience.
Thanks! -john |
Nothing else needs to be removed. I just use a long 3/8" ratchet and socket. Did you remove the caliper already? Once it is out of the way you have a little more room for the bracket bolts.

The slide pins stay in place but you should remove the 13mm bolts and remove the caliper. There's nothing tricky about removing the caliper or bracket.

I have an 08 s80 and recently had 2 different mechanics tell me that the only way to get the calipers to open was to take the vehicle back to the dealer so they could hook it up to the computer - unfortunately for me the dealer was 45 minutes away. Probably won't be buying another Volvo.

I just did the rears on my wife's car; 2x15mm bolts on each caliper. I was able to easily put a wrench on the lower... and a socket for that matter... but without auto parking brake... |
There is a way around activating service mode for the parking brake. The motors come off the back of the caliper very easily.
