S80 stalling when coming to a stop

Hi All, I had a problem with the immobilizer on Saturday. Went to start car..and nothing. Waited a few hours, went to start it again...nothing. Locked & unlocked car 5 or 6 times (as recommended on the web) and engine started again fine. Decided to change Battery in case this was the problem (hadn't been changed for 5 years.) Now the car is stailling evertime I approach a junction, cuts out completely. But starts up again straight away. Not drivable at the moment. Engine revs drop to low as I'm coming to a stop and engine cuts out. It's an Automatic Transmission (Petrol 2.4). Can anyone help? I absolutely love my car and don't want to give it up yet...only 100,000 on the clock. I would relly appreciate any assistance.. Thanks!

I would try cleaning the throttle body and see if that helps it.

Thanks for coming back so quickly! I eventually managed to get the car booked in for a diagnosis on 1st March to a volvo garage in case it's an electonic issue. (Wouldn't feel confident touching the engine myself...prob make it worse.) I'll report back and hopefully this will help someone in the future. Hope it's not going to cost a fortune......Thanks again! :)

Same thing currently happening with my 2.9- RPMs dropping to around 500, lights dimming, etc., though it has only stalled 2-3 times. Running the heat helps to keep RPMs up enough not to stall. Also, will start car sometimes and clock will have reset to --:--. Just replaced an O2 sensor last week, I guess ETM is next. 2001 MY; 136,000 mi.

Hello! Just to update, I brought the car to volvo and they diagnosed that it was the ETM. They replaced it (at a cost of €850 incl labor:eek:) but to be fair to them the car is running perfect ever since. :)
