S80 T6 speaker covers
Ok, kind of a weird question. Got a 2000 S80 T6. How do you take off the speaker covers/grilles on the larger speakers located in the two front doors? one of the speakers has an internal buzzing of some kind, so I tried to pry off the cover with a thin blade but it didn't work and i didn't want to create any unneeded damage around the speaker. Is there a more appropriate way to get to these speakers, or do I have to get a larger hammer? [:o] Many thanks!

RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
You have to take off the door panels. They are very easy to remove. There is one torx bit screw under a small plastic cover in the armrest, and then you have to remove the various plastic push-clips (not sure what they are called - you will see them around the the door panel). Push in the center until you hear a click, then the clips can pop out when you pull the door panel toward you. Then remove the trim piece around the door handle (pull it out toward you).
On my car, the speakers are permanently attached to this plastic bracket, which is fastened by 3 rivets to the door frame. |

Thanks, bro.

RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
I need to replace the speakers in the rear door and noticed (like you mentioned) they are riveted in. Has anyone replaced these speakers and did you remove the entire bracket which is riveted to the door?

RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
The bracket is part of the speaker you will need to remove it.

RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
You will need to drill the rivets out. If you get OEM replacement speakers, the instructions will tell you which size drill bit to use. The new speakers will also come with screws and clips to fasten them in place. Bracket is built into the speaker.

RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
I didn't want to drill it out without some verification it was the right thing to do, so thanks.
Stupid question, but is OEM direct from dealer? I was hoping to have more options than just dealer. |
RE: S80 T6 speaker covers
When you drill out the rivets and remove the speaker, make sure you remove the pieces that fell behind from the bottom of the door (easy to do once the speaker is out, since a hole will be there).
Since the OEM speakers have the bracket, I'm not sure where else you could buy replacements (besides the dealer). I would like to know this as well. Perhaps some online volvo parts dealers can get them at a discount, but not sure. There are 3 OEM speaker options, with dynaudio being the best. |
