S80 Turbo Consideration
Hi All:
I am trying to buy a 2002 Volvo S80 T6 with Twin Turbo Engine. I am not sure about the turbo because it maybe expensive to maintain and fix if anything goes bad. When I saw the turbo engine it has too many pipes and tubes on top of the engine while non-turbo is clear, you can see all top of the engine. It looks to me it will be easier to work on and I'm not a mechanic. Should I stay away from turbos and look for non-turbo or it does not matter. Thanks for your suggestions. |
Me myself I like turbo cars.

I love my T6! Of course I haven't had any turbo problems yet(knock on wood). As far as the tubes on top of the engine, they can be a bit of a pain in the ass sometimes but not enough that it should stop you from buying one in my opinion.

The answer is - it depends. I have a T6 and had work done on the car with no issues with those turbo pipes, there's a few torx scews around, a few wires unplugged and they come off. You seem to be very aware of the higher degree of difficulty of working on a turboed car and yet you dont do maintenance yourself...
turbos usually burn more oil, if a turbo breaks it is very expensive to fix. Since the s80 is a heavy car it really appreciated the extra power and torque, i never drove the 2.9L s80 but around town i dont see why you would need more power...if you want power without turbos then get yourself a V8 bmw |
