s80 upgrades

I am looking to upgrade my 2005 2.5T AWD S80. not sure what exactly what is best. it is still stock and i am not looking to get to far out there with mods yet! does and one know what the 0 to 60, 1/8th and 1/4 miles are for my stock s80? maybe a timeslip. and how much can my car handle and what can it handle as far as easy plugins and turbo upgrades before i have to start to worry about tearing it up? any got any wins on there side and what kind of car, but i am not looking for the t6'S info.

Thanks so much!

RE: s80 upgrades

I hate to say it but I have never heard of an s80 2.5t.

The only 2.5t that would be an 05 would be an s60 2.5t.

So lets clear this up before we move on with mods.

RE: s80 upgrades

yeah they did make a 2.5T S80. Its got 208 hp with 236lbs torque on a AWD platform.

RE: s80 upgrades

Ok after doing some research via GOOGLE I found some information. I didn't doubt you I just never heard of a 2.5T AWD s80. I knew there was an s80 awd just I didn't know it was turboed.

However in retrospect I should have assumed since most of the newer Volvo AWD's are turbocharged via the LPT engine.

*So right now it looks like you running, 210Hp and 236 Ft-Lb's of Torque. Also it would seem like you have the LPT (Low Pressure Turbo) engine, meaning you have a small turbo. Meaning more then likely you have a 13g turbo like myself with an ANGLED flange.

-------------------------------------

1. What is your budget?

2. What is your Hp goal?

3. Have you completed STAGE ZERO? If not read up about it here, https://volvoforums.com/m_38606/tm.htm
Complete this before doing any performance engine modifications. Also IPD USA might still have what STAGE ZERO is on their website. Look it up.

4. There are no "EASY PLUGGINS" or "BOLT ON PARTS". You just wont find that in the Volvo aftermarket world. Expect to pay a lot of money to get minimal to moderate gains. I will tell you that you will see the most gains from an ECU upgrade followed by a mandrel bent 3" downpipe followed by a 2.5" to 3" mandrel bent catback system with a free flowing muffler and CAT such as BORLA and or Magnaflow finally an intake. Even if it is just a brand new panel filter.

5. Please use these two threads to help you search for aftermarket companies & parts.
https://volvoforums.com/m_65537/tm.htm
https://volvoforums.com/m_38606/tm.htm

6. Your an LPT (Low Pressure Turbo). Your making anywhere from 5-7PSI right now. Your car's turbo can handle up to 15PSI before the turbo is out of its effecincy range. Personally I am running 15PSI on my LPT and it is nice, but I felt 12PSI was a stronger PSI then the 15PSI. I would run between 10-12 PSI. Your going to have to raise your boost via an ECU upgrade. MBC's (Manual Boost Controllers) are not able to be used on 1999+ Volvo's as ME7 doesn't like them.

7. Can you add a bigger turbo yes. How big do you want to go? Personally if your not thinking of going big the 16T is the way I would go. It can hold 15PSI very nicely better then the 13g can.

ECU Upgrades
1. BSR PPC, which (EST, EuroSportTuning) sells.
http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...Code=VL-S80-en

2. IPD USA Softloader. Contact them as their website says it is for the T6 model. They might have a solution for your car as well.
http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S80/Perf...p-76-634-2194/

3. Viva Performance sells RICA software upgrades. Contact them about a possible solution for your ride.
http://www.vivaperformance.com/catalog/

4. You can also check out SpeedTuning USA, Upsolute & Inmotion. These are the three cheapest ECU upgrades on the market. However I would recommend going with the BSR PPC, RICA PPC and or IPD USA. Better research goes into their products and better results are had.

Downpipes
*For this your most likely looking at buying into having a local muffler shop make you a custom 3" mandrel bent downpipe.

Catback Systems
1. EST Catback System (Call them and or e-mail to see if this will work with your car)
http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...Code=VL-S80-en

Again this might be one of those trips to the local muffler shop to have a 2.5" to 3" mandrel bent catback system made with a free flowing CAT and muffler such as a BORLA or Magnaflow.

Intakes
1. Look for a K&n panel filter.

2. EST, EuroSportTuning Panel Filter
http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...Code=VL-S80-en

3. BMC CDA sold by Viva Performance (SOLD OUT, but ask if they can get one in or where you might be able to buy one)

RE: s80 upgrades

There is more in the means of downpipes and catback systems & ECU upgrades for the T6 model then the 2.5T model.

Estimate what you might gain from these mods.

- ECU Upgrade = 20-30 Hp give or take
- Downpipe = 15-20 Hp give or take
- Catback = 10-15 Hp give or take
- Intake = 2-5 Hp give or take

*47 Hp at the least with the figures above give or take.
*70 Hp at the most with the figures above give or take.

You probably know this but not everyone will gain the same amount of power with every mod. Even if you and your friend have the same exact car and the same mods. So don't expect to gain 70 Hp. If you truly want to know how much your gaining or loosing with each mod you will have to dyno your car before and after each mod.

So...

- Dyno your car stock after you complete STAGE ZERO and get a base line of what you have.
- Do your first mod. I would do the intake and or downpipe and or catback first. Dyno again, get results.
- Followed by your next mod. So lets say you did intake first, then do the downpipe. Dyno again, get results.
- Now do your catback system, dyno again and get results.
- ECU tune should be done last. Because it will take into account all the other mods you have done. Dyno after this. See the results.

Now you don't have to dyno after each mod. However it will give you the most clearest picture of how much your gaining and or loosing with your performance parts.

RE: s80 upgrades

Hi,

My car is a 2002 S80 T6 2.9 litre with 268hp and (I believe) 280 foot pounds of torque. I've wanted to soup it up for a long time, and recently decided to just go for it. I hope to maximize its overall performance w/o getting too loud or otherwise conspicuous. I am not interested in any purely cosmetic upgrades. I am new to this whole thing however, and am definitely looking for any information/suggestions from those more experience and informed than myself.

At this point, here is the list of upgrades I am considering doing after doing some reading and shopping around:
-K&N performance air filter
-Pulstar spark plugs
-Volvo S80 Type HR Hyper Voltage System (voltage stabilizer)
-IPD anti-swaybar kit
-QBM Strut Bar Conversion
-IPD Upper Engine Stabilizer Polyurethane BushingKit
-IPD ECU Flash Upgrade
-QBM Performance Lower Transmission Mount
-Heavy Duty Polyurethane Transmission Mount Assembly
-Sylvania Headlight Bulb Headlight Bulb (For use as high beams only)

I am interested in possibly adding a blow off valve for the turbos, but don't know enough about them or my turbos to go that far yet. Any advice on this?

I want to upgrade my brake system eventually, but since my breaks are in good working order, I figured I would wait till the calipers and rotors needed replacing to do them. At this point, I am wondering about the utility of steel break lines, as I live in the northeast, where ambient temperatures are not often exceedingly high. Would that be a worthwhile investment? Also, what kind of performance increases could I reasonably expect if I did replace the original rotors and calipers with more high performance types (drilled and slotted rotors etc.)?

Anyways, if anyone has any helpful thoughts, I look forward to reading them.

Thanks

RE: s80 upgrades

To be honest with you loginn, the car came with either Brembo or Zimmerman brakes as stock, and they dont come much better than that.....

if you Really want to you can put the zimmerman drilled rotors in, i think thet are 140 for the pair, or maybe get a cheaper set on ebay but I cant vouch for how much difference itl make... I dont think itl make you stop any faster, it will just help for heat dissipation when using the brakes often (eg mountain driving or racing..)
Iv found that the s80s brake are some of the best iv ever felt stock on a vehicle so its the last thing i ever considered upgrading on the car...
just my thoughts

RE: s80 upgrades

Great! Thank you for the advice! I am glad to hear it. I don't plan on racing too much, so I think I will probably stick with the stock. Though, I just got my rear brakes changed a little while ago, and don't know what they put on. So maybe someday I'll look into it. All I would really be interested in is shortening my stopping distance.

I appreciate it.

nicolaselias 03-03-2008 10:23 PM

RE: s80 upgrades

Also keep in mind the weight of the car, that would have a lot to do with the stopping distance, fit those same brakes on say a corolla and ul stop on a dime literally... I have had to emeergency brake a few times and I found the response pretty impressive, better than the most comparable car i can think of which is my dads acura RL... similar weighted car
I honestly would consider those zimmerman drilleds when that time comes but the guy who had the car before me did a full 800 dollar brake job about a yr ago so i think im good to go for a while...
