Servicing an s80
I have a 2000 s80 with 105,000 miles, that has the service light on, my wife called the dealer to see what needs to be done to remove the light or how much it costs to get serviced, the repair man stated that the timing belt needs to be adjusted and that it would cost around $750, First, what's covered when my vehicle needs to be serviced, and should it cost that much? thanks for your response.

RE: Servicing an s80
If they replace the timing belt It might cost you that much.
My Advise is to find a Volvo specialist in your area and get a quote from them. See if there is a sticker under the hood the belt might have already been replaced if you bought it used. Most of the time people change them at 70,000 miles. |
RE: Servicing an s80
where would the sticker be found? what does it look like?
|
RE: Servicing an s80
Some Tech's put them in Different places. It will say something like Timing belt replaced with the Milage and date on it.

RE: Servicing an s80
are they reuired to post the sticker? or can look it up by the vin
|
RE: Servicing an s80
Not required And looking up the Vin won't tell you.
You might want to take a look if you have a T-30 torxes. It will take you about 10 minutes to look at the belt. Turn engine over slowly and look for the writing and first make sure it is a Volvo belt. |
RE: Servicing an s80
what do i do with the tool? i mean dont i need to take the plastic cover apart on the left side of the engine?
|
RE: Servicing an s80
Yes remove the top Spark plug cover over the Belt on the Right side of the car(Your left side when looking under the hood)

RE: Servicing an s80
i think i read in the manual that the timing belt was good till 120,000 miles?
|
RE: Servicing an s80
They say it is good till 105,000 but I have seen them Break at 70,000. Then about $3500.00 to get it fixed.
