Slipping transmission - Volvo says need new tranny
2001 S80 T6 98,500miles
My transmission slips first thing in the morning. Unless I take it very easy on acceleration, the engine races till it catches. Also, occasionally slips going into 2nd. After about 15 minutes and things warm up, I'm good to go - works fine. Fluid does have bubbles when I check it. I took it to Volvo and they experienced the slippage. Fluid is clean. Good level. No fault codes. Current software. There answer is a new transmission for $4300. My independent mechanic found a used one and will do the job for $2500. Have not gone to a transmission shop, yet. My concern is if I go to anyone but the dealer, I'll have issues because this car seems to really depend on proprietary software from Volvo. A new tranny could confuse the whole system. I'm I correct? Any advice? I'm driving it as is for now with hopes I won't get stranded soon. |

If you go to the eye doctor, he'll give you glasses.......Plastic surgen will give a lift or what ever.
Mileage and useage (has it been beaten to death) will give a clue.....I would start with just a drain n fill +fillter....I'm not a mechanic, but I'm not gullable either........This my friend, would be the cheapest and first choice of mine.. |

I had mine rebuilt (2000 S80 T6) at a transmission shop. Cost $1,800 out the door, 1yr unlimited mile warranty (doubt dealer will give any warranty) and I haven't had any problems (other than the shop being dishonest, not admiting to scratching my bumper and losing clips for my air box) but the trans is doing good!
