Steering noise

I have a volvo S80 1999.it has done about 70,000 miles. The steering makes a screeching plastic noise when turned to the extreme right and the left. What could be the problem? Does this have to do anything with the power steering?I checked the power steering oil and itis full.

does the noise come from outside of the car or do you hear it mostly inside of the car? lets start there first

RE: Steering noise

Fisrt thing to ask is what size tires do you have on it? Some times when you have 17" rims on it when you replace the tires they might be a little wider the the factory tires then they will rub on the inner fender liner or it might be the steering stops that are on the lower control arms. For the second quiestion the noise over the pot holes is usualy the upper spring seat it is a peice that is on the top of the strut to hold the spring to the strut the way you check it is to get a 22mm wrench and try to turn the nut on the top of the strut with the car sitting normaly on the ground and if it turns that means it is bad and will need to be replaced

RE: Steering noise

Second Question re noise on potholes - Tech is on the money. Had the same problem on my 99 S80 - broken spring seats and damaged link strut. Fixed now.
