Steering Problems

My 99 S80 is acting weird.... In the middle of a sustained curve about a second or so into the turn my steering wheel jerks in the direction of the turn. It feels like there is something loose in the steering system. Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the problem????

Thanks

RE: Steering Problems

Sounds like it might be the steering rack. There is valves in the rack and sometimes they wear and act funny in turn like that. The valve is fluttering.

RE: Steering Problems

I just fixed the steering problem today. It was the right ball joint. The ball joints were new in 2000 when the dealer replaced them in the safety recall, but evidently these ball joints dont last more than about 60,000 miles, Oh Well.... I changed just about everything on the front end of this car to fix the steering problem, and all repairs were justified as every part I pulled was worn almost to the point of failure. The struts were non-existent, the brakes were on their last millimeter, the tie rod ends were rotten, and the ball joints were about to fail, which would have resulted in an accident. I figure the extreme poor condition of this car's suspension is due to the pot holes here in MN, but I have owned other cars that handle the pot holes without wearing out so fast. I like the ride on the S80 and think I will keep the car, I have no other choice now that I have sunken $2000 into it...Thanks for the help....

RE: Steering Problems

Im glad you got it fixed sorry you had to replace everything.
Im guessing it is from the potholes as well.
If you haven't had an alignment done yet make sure you do or it will wear your tires.
