Stereo: OEM to Aftermarket
I have now seen at least 3 Volvo S80's that have had the stereo swapped out of the car. From what I have read so far, this has been accomplished by doing the following:
* Taking it to your local Volvo dealer * Having them upload software to the car to remove the stereo module from the network * Then it should just be a simple matter of removing the stereo and wiring in a new one. Is this correct? What are the complications? Will everything else function correctly once the stereo is removed? Now I have thought about potentially going the whole ipod adapter thing, but need to find out what the expense of this is going to be. So far quoted between $600-$700 to install the adapter (seeing as I do not have a cd-changed with my HU801). Any other suggestions? |
RE: Stereo: OEM to Aftermarket
Just make sure that the after market is sized appropriately for the opening. I assume the S80 is a double din same as S60 & 850 etc. You can buy a single din and get a filler. Usually Crutchfield etc. will have them.

RE: Stereo: OEM to Aftermarket
you could get a JL audiocleansweep which will be about half the cost of the Ipod Adapter, but it will do a lot more in functionality. I paid 350$ for mine, and that includes installation. And you dont even have to bring it to the delearship for the programmming, keeps your finish stock.
