Thinking about buying a '99 S80 T6

It has 91,000 miles on it, single owner.

It will be a car for my wife to commute to work in, and hopefully a road trip car for us.

First, do you guys recommend this model (i think i'm going to get a biased opinion :) )
Second, what are the common failure points that i should check out on this particular car?
Last, what are the first maintenance items I need to do if I do buy the car.

if history not known, timing belt and related family, trans filter, fluid, all fluids is a good idea, cabin filter, this is a good start, also make sure all software upgrades, this is a good starting point for you.

The only way I would buy that car is if the transmission has been replaced. Its a great car but the 99-01 S80s for known to have transmission problems. My transmission went bad at 114K miles just last year and I had to pay $3,500 plus tax out of my pocket for a new one. I heard the 02 and newer S80s are better.

That's what I'm getting ready to do to the one I just bought about 3 weeks ago, although it is not the T model :( Mine has nearly 200k miles on it (paid $2400 cash) and the tranny was replaced once around 140k miles from what the previous owner told me. I am also going to be putting new struts, bearings, etc on soon, but I think the main thing I need to replace 1st is the timing belt, tensioner, etc since it has around 80k miles from what I was told. I absolutely love the car, but like they say you may need to sink a little $$ into it to get her back up to par? Depends on how well the last person took care of it I suppose. Like yourself I bought this as a car for my fiance' and child to commute around town although I find myself driving it more than my Explorer now..lol.
