Tire Size Question
 

Have 2001 Volvo S80 2.9 non turbo Have 225/50 R17 right now. Need to replace. Michlein 225/50R17 are $167.00 per tire I can get Goodyear Gt Hr 225/55R17 for $107.00 or Goodyear GT HR 225/45R17 for $117.00 per tire. All of these are plus mount. My question is will I notice any big difference going to the alternate size of the 45 or 55 width. Keep mind being a senior citizen and never drive hard on our car. We also could use the savings of 200.00 or more savings with the Goodyear tire. If swapping width is ok which size should I go with? Thanks

Your width is actually the first number. IE: 225 is the width, 45 or 55 is the profile or sidewall height, and of course the 17 is the diamater. If you can wait until tomorrow I can get you a price quote on some tires and hopefully get you a better price. Of course I can't have them mounted unless you live close to Dayton Ohio or would be willing to send the wheels (which I assume you need on there to drive the car).

Thx for the reply as I was all mixed up. I thought the 45 or 55 was the width After your reply I think I will go with the 225/55R17 as they will be just a tad higher. Does anyone think the small height difference would be a problem? I would think the freight would be kind of high from Florida to Ohio and like you say I dont like walking till they get back. THX
