Transmission Oil?

Just out of curiousity, what's the general rule of thumb on changing the transmission oil for the S80's?

And is the transmission oil change something I can trust my local oil and lube place to do, or should I go to the dealership to get that done?

-- One other thing, just so that I understand it right, Tech stated before that finding metal shavings or black stuff in the transmission oil is normal, right? I have not had any transmission issues at all, I'm just curious.

Thanks for the help!

You will always see little Black looking residue in the pan/on the drain plug when draining the fluid.
The S80 has a pan that needs to be removed unless you flush it.

What are some of the signs that a tranmission repair will be needed, Sometimes when using tiptronic, the gears change a little rouch or even in automatic....

Harsh/Delayed shifting or shifting shutter are signs. But most of the time software will fix that as well.

Change your fluid out. Consult your owners manual for the proper fluid to use.

Hi tech, apart from the dealer where would be the best place to get the transmission fluid? I want to change it just to be safe when m chaning my oil and so on...

Also, how often do you have to change the transmission fluid filter? I can get the filter kit for about 30 with the gasket seal etc and im wondering if to change it just to be safe....

the car is at 101,000 miles and i got it 4000 ago, and i have no idea what work was done on it before.... the transmission feels ok, its a little harsh between 1st and 2nd sometimes but that could be more due to my driving style...

Anyway, any help will be apreciated
thanks

You can use the Volvo ATF or you can save a bunch by getting Mobile ATF 3309 CS, it is the same formula and it is for all Volvos 2000 and Newer...I called Mobile and they said it is the same formula, it's for several different makes such as Toyota/Lexus Saab etc. It's only about 7.50 a qt. Good luck and Happy Motoring...

I have a 99 T6 with 132k miles. I use to shutter a lot between 1 & 2nd gear but most of that went away when I replaced the top engine mount (the one you can see when you pop the hood).

It use to be my car and my mom has been driving it for the past 30-35k miles and our driving styles are VERY different ;) Recently i've noticed and she has complained that it shifts strange. Many times (i think between 2&3rd) rpm's would go as high as 5k and it would linger there for a little bit, then it would shift up kind of roughly.
Took it to the dealer yesterday and the tech said that he couldn't pull any codes or see anything that looked suspicious and the car was actually driving well. He suggested that they flush the tranny for get this, $691.64. Does that sound pretty high for a flush?
My dad flushed the oil not too long ago so I'm not too convinced that this would help so i didn't do it. But talking with the guy he told me about the adaptive transmission were it monitors your driving style and we decided that it might be a good idea to reset that computer and see if that helps.

The acceleration is also very different, it dosen't feel like a T6 at all (test drove an 06 2.5T yesterday and it was unbelievably faster at 205hp).

Well it didn't. I'm taking it back on Monday and now it seems that every time it shifts the trany lingers a little at a high rpm before shifting, so it has gotten worst. I'm not sure if this is b/c the system needs time to reset/learn the driving style but we'll see if it improves.
So i wanted to know if anyone has come across this kind of problem and what they did. Also, during the course of all this the MPG have gotten worst as well. On trips my mom use to average around 17-18 she now gets 14....

Thanks for your help & sorry for the loong post

PS my dad is out of the country but he returns in april and we'll flush the tranny again
