Default Dash temp gauge

Started out the other day 85 degrees outside. Had the AC on automatic, but noticed after a while it was blowing hot air. Recycled all the controls with no luck. Just happened to look at the dash and the ambient outside air temp was reading 44 degrees, so the AC was trying to bring the temp from 44 to 72, where I had it set. After 20 miles or so it started reaching normal temp. and the AC began to work properly.
Any idea what is at fault? Only happened twice so far. Is there a sensor going south? If so, where is it?
Oops, forgot 2001 S80 T6

I think you're correlating the outside air temp to the interior temp in error. Although they may be interconnected from a load factor, the car has an interior temp sensor and that is what it will use to determine whether it needs to blow hot or cold air and at what speed the fan needs to be at to maintain the temperature in the car.

I understand there is a sensor in the dash that tells the heat/AC what to do, but it was odd that the outside temperature made a difference in the A/C, because it did....on two occasions. No other factor changed. I leave it at the same temperature and auto settings all the time, changing only with the seasons as comfort requires. Wondering if anyone else had this happen. Thanks for your response.

Anyone know where the outside temp sensor is located. This keeps happening and I know there must be direct relationship somewhere between the outside temp sensor and the inside one, and ultimately the A/C.
Anyone????

Smile Ambient Temp Sensor

I own a 2001 v70xc, and my sensor is located underneath the drivers side mirror. I actually had to replace it today. My dash temp also read the wrong temp resulting in hot air blowing. Changing the sensor was the answer! They retail for 20.00 usd from a Volvo dealership closes to you!
