Used 2007 Volvo s80 low MPG?

Hi all! New to this forum and also new to being a Volvo owner, having just upgraded from my 1997 Honda Accord.

Got a decent deal on this 2007 Volvo s80 with 82k miles on it from a dealership. Carfax shows it being well-maintained for all regular service up until about 60k. It went through safety at the dealership and I had an independent inspection done as well, both showed the only issue was a front sway bar link that we haven't fixed yet. The coolant was also low so we topped it off.

Only problem is the MPG seems ridiculously low.

Filled up the tank with 87 octane, dash said I'd have 360 miles for the tank but it is already down to about 200 after going only 40 miles (mix highway/road). Tank shows I've used more than 1/4 tank in the 40 miles I've driven it - so 3-4 gallons. The incidental is hovering around 13. No check engine light or warnings. It has been snowing but I wouldn't anticipate i would be so low.

How accurate is the dash/computerized system on these vehicles? What MPG are you all getting? Anything I should be looking for that two inspections wouldn't have caught?

Thanks!

It calculates estimated range fro what the car was just getting - if you were babyiong it befor fill up then it will guess high. in my experience, lower octane will yeild lower milage - this was done on a 500 mille road trip - there on regular, back on super.
(running on regular has been blamed for some issues on my S70 so I stopped doing it on all my cars).
My S80 gets around 15MPG around town since new ('05). Still does. 18-23 on the highway.

There have been issues with level senders. But the best way to calculate it is to fill it back up and do the math. It is not related to octane. Octane does not affect mileage.
