Hello out there,

I recently got a 2002 S80 T6 that cosmetically is in very good shape. Got it for $7500 with 92000mi on it and it seems to be in very good shape except for a vibration I get in the center/left front at 2000 to 2500 rpm. It also happens at lower rpm when the suspension compresses from dips in the road. Tires are good and it is not that kind of vibration, also does NOT happen under hard acceleration

So I hope someone might have an idea as to what it might be.

One of the things I am thinking it might be is a bad CV shaft. I really need to get manuals

I have also learned I need change the timing belt, tensioner, the main belt and pulley.

This is my first Volvo and really like it so far and plan to keep it for a good while.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks, I can feel some slop in the shaft when the wheel is lifted. Since I did not get a car history I am having an overall inspection done.

I have it going to the shop Monday. I could do it myself and save money but I have closed in most of my garage and only my motorcycle will fit and working on a vehicle in the driveway is no fun. I will work the bike because if I don't get something finished I just drag the stand in. Not many Volvo repair shops around Austin but I found these guys http://www.revolutionmotors.com I have a friend that has his Audi worked on there and was real pleased.

Well the shop said lower control arm bushings are shot and most likely to be the cause of the vibration. They found other things also like poor maintenance, some turbo sensor unplugged, leak at the transmission gasket, coolant leak at the overflow tank. They are gonna get all that fixed and do the timing belt, pulley and tensioner, tune up, and transmission service for $2900.00. That means I will have $10400.00 into the car.

thats a lot of money

see if you can do some of those things yourself or see if you actually NEED to fix some of those issues right away, maintenace for example can be done on your own, plugs, anf fuel filter at least, pcv maybe as well

It is already in the shop and I am tired of working on vehicles in my driveway. I have built motors, tore out suspension and put in solid axles, installed lockers, etc, etc. I used to build up 4x4 rockcrawler trucks and got out of that because of all the required work. If I had a shop it would be different.

yeah i get what you mean, its kind asad how a car turns out to be a money hole, but hey, its a nice car

so far i had to pony up just 800 canadian in fixing costs in the week that i had the car (alighnment and replaced two o2 sensors) i am hoping to do the spark plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve and maybe other maintenance that i can find free information on all by myself...

Hey guys, Newbie to the forums here but I've got the exact same problem
99 S80 T-6 with 105k. Car runs like a champ but I have vibration under accleration and gets worse as you push it.
Took to dealer, full inspection says all is well but probably tires. New tires installed, 4 wheel alignment and better, but still present.

Next thing dealer says is CV axle replacement due to looseness. $500 parts, $400 labor.

Is this a DIY project? and if so, anyone have some plans?

It should be doable by you.
Its really not all that hard.
You can remove the strut to hub bolts and the sway bar end links and fold the hub down and slide the axle out of the hub. Then remove the axle from the tranny if it is a R/S axle there is a bracket holding the bearing on the axle you will need to remove. If it is the L/S you just pop it out of the tranny.

Thanks to everyone.

Easy as pie. Just check the passenger side for that Visco clutch option. Mine had it and I did order the right one. The tell tale sign is another item behind the 2nd CV joint before the axle enters the transmission.

Dumbly put, it looks like there are 3 CV joints instead of two. If you have this, you have the Visco clutch.

Directions were excellent here http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...ic.php?p=63174 just some bolt sizes being 1 size off. Otherwise an easy job that took 1 1/2 with 2 guys

Vibration all gone. Runs so good I may do the drivers side now!
