I have a 2001 S80 2.4 T5. Today I went out it was fine. I came out from shopping and the car had message saying Appel urgent and it wouldn't start wasn't clicking. The windows were working. What should I look for

dead battery??

Joanne Chehade 05-05-2018 06:58 AM

No I don't think it's the battery because it didn't try to turn over and my electric windows wipers and all lights are working. I forgot to mention that a week ago my temperature gauge shot up and told me engine high temp switch off asap. I turned it off and lifted the bonnet and everything was normal. I left the car overnight and the next morning turned on ignition and immediately engine hot which is not possible. I was told I could have a sensor broke but could this have messed up the computer and now my car has gone into engine safety cut off until it's fixed

sounds like your engine coolant temp sensor is bad. Do you see coolant in the overflow reservoir? The temp sensor is an easy fix - its located under the thermostat (follow the big hose from the top of the radiator to the engine - you will see the sensor under the hose where it meets the engine. Part should cost 50 USD, plus a new thermostat for $15 and some antifreeze. The shop will probably start by reading all the engine fault codes to see if anything else is going on. Was the temp gauge normal when you went out shopping>?

Welcome to VF Joanne.

As you didn't hear a click it's likely the starter isn't getting any juice from the battery or the starter switch or starter itself is bad.
I'd start by cleaning the battery connections if needed and making sure the clamps and the wires at the clamps are tight. You could also get a hand and have someone try to tap on the starter as you turn the key to see if the starter will kick in.
