Weird engine hesitation problem...dealer can' figure out why

Ok, last December, my dad bought a 2000 Volvo S80 with about 46k miles on it from Sewell. Originally, it was great, but had to have quite a bit of work done on it (software had to be reinstalled, some major suspension work (2k+) and then it ran really smooth). Now, there's been a problem recently. It doesn't happen all the time, but when you accelerate, it appears as if the engine is "hesitating" and it doesn't give that acceleration...then like 10 seconds later, the acceleration comes up and the RPMs rev up. It's hard to explain through here, I'm not sure if any of you have experienced it? The dealers have run all the diagnostic systems and their computer systems are not showing any issues...but when they drove it, they could feel it. So, they did some software update and the frequency of the problem has gone down but it still exists. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It's hard to explain unless you actually drive it. It's like the acceleration is delayed and then comes up later. Is it serious? Engine issue?

It's a 2.9 non turbo.

I would say maybe a bad throttle body.

Well, at the dealer, when they are running all the diagnostics, nothing is showing up. What exactly is a throttle body?

That is what makes the engine rev.
Your car is fully electronic. The throttle bodys on your car are known to go bad all the time.

So would you say this is a serious issue? I mean this "hesitation" only happens sometimes...

Also, you're saying that the throttle body's on 2000 S80's are known to go bad?

From 1999-2002/2003 are known to go bad.
So much that here in the states there is an extended warranty on it from the Dealer.
The warranty is 10 years 200,000 miles.
