What is this? (video)
I cant figure out what this is... :( The oil cooler was just replaced by someone with a bad rep as u can tell by the hoses. There a hole in the block almost as if a freeze plug or water jacket belongs in it. When i start up the whip it smokes a lot. It smells like oil burning but im no 100 percent sure.
2002 volvo s80 2.9l non turbo - YouTube you see the hole around 0:14, its right above the oil cool and under exhaust manifold. thanks. |
Yep, the plug popped out. That's for oil return from the turbo on a turbo engine.
After replacement, make sure the PCV isn't clogged. |
Well let me ask this, when the engine is running and I look at this hole shouldn't I be able to see coolant or oil leaking excessively from that hole? All I see is smoke and it might be from the oil cooler hose leaking on to the hot pipes and exhaust.
No coolant. They usually leak oil though. More so when revving.

Makes sense since my the car looses 1 quart every oil change (3k). The car belongs to one of my babies mammas so ill check the pcv when I see her tonight. Also any clue what the part # is? I am sure I can search the forum to find a proper installation guide
Can't check the PCV with that plug missing. I don't have the number but its only a few bucks at the dealer.
any idea has to what they would call that plug? thanks for the help es6t much appreciated.
The parts diagram just calls it a plug, but if you explain that it goes in the block where the turbo drain tube would go, they should know what you're talking about.
yea i got the plug yesterday from, 6 bucks. Ill probably put it in after work today and check the PCV.
that oil plug is a pain to get in, any tips? i hope i dont have to remove the exhaust manifold. I tried tapping it in with extensions and sockets but the is not room to get a good swing on it.
Yeah they are a pain in the ass. I've always used a socket and extension, you may need to remove the heat shield.
