What's easier t6 headgasket or t6 motor swap
 

I got a t6 s80 with a bad belt for a song. I do my own work, and I know on my mercedes swapping the motor was easier than a gasket job. However, Vadis makes both jobs look impossible.

go ahead with the swap i heard when the belt breaks on these things it's really the best thing to do.

I am not an expert but look closely to see if replacing valves requires you to take the cogged pulley off the cam. If it does, you will need special tools to set the position of the cam shaft to the cogged pulley which I have seen advertized for about $350. I believe the same toolset has parts to pull the valve train cover off.

I recenly did the timing belt which was not to bad. Line up the pointer on the outside flange of the crank shaft timing pulley with the mark on the face of the engine. Manuals were not to clear on this. Line up the marks on the face of the upper timing pulleys with the slots in the plastic timing cover them make match marks on the head and camshaft so you can remove the plastic cover which will provide more room to install the belt while being able to confirm the pulley is in the right position.

I use Vadis in conmbination with All Data to figure out how to service mine. Neither is great but you can probably get buy with both of them. My S80 is my first Volvo. Previous history was with Ford and GM vehicles.

Yeah I got Vadis, and its showing a ton of special tools to get the head off. Some one on here told me I only actually NEEDED one of the tools, which I think the cog puller you are talking about. Can you PM me the tool kit for 350? That would rock if it came with multiple tools.

I hope to resell the car eventually and I'd like to come out even when I do, so at this point I am thinking rebuilding the head is the way to go. Especially since VADIS says dropping the engine might upset the SRS system.

get a new head and gasket kit?

i cant really tell what motor that is, so can you tell me what motor and setup you are wanting to go with and what track time or power goals you are looking for, and then i will comment since no one else will lol

Well I'm trying to put the car back on the road reliably as cheap as I can. Then I'll drive it for a few months to get my money out of it, and then sell it.

While I am driving it I might put an intercooler to make the top end a little happier.

I believe it is the 2.8 or 2.9 but it is a twin turbo, AWD.
