Why not bring a new S80 diesel in US?

Hello,

I was doing some research on the new 2nd genaration S80,s online and I read that it comes with a diesel engine also but volvo does not have any plans to bring a diesel volvo in the US of yet. With gas prices being so high it makes perfect sense to bring a diesel volvo in the US. Mercedeas Benz and Volkswagen are selling diesels in the US so why not Volvo. I know one of my realatives here in the US who just bought a 05 Mercedeas E 320 CDI diesel and it gives him close to 40 MPG on highway (unbelievable). So it does make perfect sense for volvo to bring back a diesel in the US in a time of rising gas prices.

RE: Why not bring a new S80 diesel in US?

Most makes/models of car in the UK can be bought with a choice of petrol or diesel engines. Many people are going for the diesel, despite a higher purchase price new and, usually, more frequent oil changes. Their reason is that given in your post - more mpg, therefore, cheaper to run.

However, as the UK petrol price is running at about 4.50 GBP and diesel is 4.55 GBP. You need to do a lot of miles to make up the higher purchase/maintenance costs.

How do these fuel costs compare to those in the US?
