why is there no discussion on the new s80? 2007-2008?

All the threads heretalk about the 1999-2000 S80s, how come noone reviews the new designed s80? I am about to pull the trigger on an 2008 S80 3.2next week, getting kind nervous of volvo quality. Any ownerwith a 07-08 S80 can provide some reviewson reliability?

I cant find any reviews at all on google, except a few on yahoo which mostly talking about how nice the interior looks (honestly who cares about interior, i just dont wantthe car to have problems and die after driving off the lot)

Not many people own them yet.
Also if they do they are all still under warranty and not on the forum.

I can only guess that the lack of discussion reflects better quality and reliability of the new S80. As you can see, 1999 & 2000 has all the problems a car can have. Volvo probably matured after 2001 in S80's quality & reliability. The new S80s have BMW transmission, which is good.

But I also heard that the new S80's have a Yamaha Engine, the same engine that was once used in Fords. I also heard that some of the Suspension parts are also made by Ford also.

Hello,

The biggest concern I would have on the new S80 is that it does not have a Volvo engine, the engine is made by Yamaha and is the same type of engine that was insome of theolder Fords. Also I heard that many of the newer Volvo's have Ford parts in them since Volvo is now owned by ford. You might want to inspect some of the suspension parts to see if it has ford stamped on it (FOMCO).

Truth is all of our s80 were made in the ford owned era so I dont see why this should be a factor... especially when you consider that ford is trying to offload volvo right now, in despersate need of cash....

I wouldnt be too worried about the engine, im sure volvo wouldnt have used it on their flagship car if it wasnt reliable..
whats the price differences between the 3.2 and the other models? I know the v8 one is a beast but is rather pricey

Well, I'm sure it's the relative lack of inventory...But I own one so can share some thoughts. I own a certified used 2007 that I bought with 11,000 miles on the clock. So far, it's bulletproof. The Yamaha V8 engine has a very satisfying rumble when you turn it over in the morning. The AWD works great in the snow and wet. When you put your foot down, the car is f-a-s-t!

The interior is the light cream leather. Everything works, is intuitive, and is easy to keep clean. I have the silver one and when I bought it I asked thedealer to remove all of the badging (Volvo icon, S80, AWD, dealer name etc) so the back is perfectly clean. I get a lot of interest in parking lots "what kind of car is that?"

Mileage is about 18 local and has been as good as 23 on the road so she is not a gas-sipper...

Couple of strange things:

The dealer maintains that oil changes are only req'd at 7500 miles, using the Volvo recommended synthetic Castrol.

The dealer replaced the stock tires with Pirellis - all weather. When I checked them for air pressure, the dealer had filled them to 45 psi. On the door jam, the recommended pressure is 36. I don't know what to keep them at and there is nothing on the Pirelli website that helps...any ideas?

All things considered, I think this car competes nicely in the luxury/performance niche - and buying it used and certified certainly saved me some bucks. Six months after the deal was done, I can safely say I'd do it again.

The April 2008 edition of AUTOMOBILE magazine (page 28) explains that the S80 is a huge sales flop for Volvo. Hope the resale is ok..................as a whole, resale of Volvos is abysimal!

To be honest the old s80 wasnt that big a seller either.. from what i understand the s60 was the main seller for them...

at the dealer for 2 hrs yesterday, i saw more c70's being testdriven than anything else... interesting... is a stunning looking car though

Im kind of glad s80s lose value so quick, thats how i was able to afford one in the first place haha
