Wierd Engine Problem!
So i just received my 1999 Volvo S80. It has 99K miles on it. I love the car to death, i only have one problem.
When i go to open the throttle to about 2/3 to full, it seems like it completely cuts off, and it either resumes acceleration a few seconds later, or I will have to let go of the gas and slowly climb back up. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this or anyway i can fix it? Thank you |
RE: Wierd Engine Problem!
First, make sure the software upgrade recall is up-to-date. If you do come in for and update, don't ask for a diagnostic unless you want to fork out $200. Since they will hook it up to the computer, they will more likely tell you "recommended services" anyway.
Is this a turbo or non? It's a electronic throttle control. So when you say open 2/3, it's hard tojudge if you really open 2/3 of the throttle. Pay attention to the rpm and speed instead. At what rpm ranges does it happen? If it's at a certain speed (gear), then possible transmission trouble. If it's at a certain rpm only, then it's engine problem. Also, if it's RPMs, then I think it could be the MAF. OR unless you mean every time you depress the gas pedal hard, you don't get an immediate respond from the engine? Anyway, my feeling is the MAF until you provide more info. My 2cents... I'm not a mechanicf BTW. :) |
RE: Wierd Engine Problem!
I was talking to someone and they said it could be fuel injection, and it could possibly be not letting in enough gas, while it is letting in too much air.

RE: Wierd Engine Problem!
It could be. The reason why I said the MAF, I was thinking air-fuel ratio. So that would your troubleshooting route if you already rule out transmission problem.
