1999 S90 Security System
 

Greetings,
We purchased the above car at the end of January, and while we're pleased with it so far, the stock security system is proving to be too cumbersome for our tastes. This S90 came from the dealer with 2 sets of keys, but only one alarm remote, and we aren't entirely pleased with the automatic nature of the alarm system. I shouldn't have to 'beep beep' the silly alarm system after pumping gas or picking up a pizza. Has anyone ever disabled their own alarm system? Could it be as simple as removing the fuse in the alarm slot?

Are you sure it is a 1999?
In the U.S. 1998 was the last year for the S90.
It also doesn't lock itself.
Maybe it is an aftermarket alarm?

Howdy. An obvious newbie here with my hand out.
We have the 1998 model S90. The alarm system has been acting up lately. After opening the car with the remote, every now and then, it either merely won't turn over, or the alarm sounds as well. Only the actual key saved us.
The batteries check at slightly over 3v, and besides, the remote has never made the low battery beep. Could they still be low? Would low batteries cause these symptoms?

Maybe the lock actuator is going bad. The key might be opening it all the way. The actuator might not be pushing it up all the way.

That could explain an "electric motor-like" sound sometimes after the car is shut off. This has only been reported to me by the wife, and this sound also stops as the door is opened.

One thing that I can't personally verify, she says the sound appears to emanate from the dash area. These motors are in each door though, I assume.

I will have her really try to nail down the location next time.

The actuators are in the doors. The only items in the dash area relating to central locking/alarm are relays in the passenger compartment relay module. Could be one of those making a noise.

Thanks Bill. I like the idea of a relay getting funky (although they are terribly overpriced) they are obviously the most accessible piece of this puzzle.

I just hope that I get to hear the noise sometime!

Security System problem possible update
 

After a failed attempt to recreate and solve the intermittent problem, a local service shop suggested a bad key, which is the easiest fix as well.
Otherwise, a bad antenna ring or, as mentioned here, door lock.

We have switched to a spare key and are anxiously waiting for something (or hopefully nothing) to happen again.
