Shift Lever stuck

My neighbor, an elderly lady who lives next door owns a 1997 S90. She recently encountered a problem when the shift lever would not budge. She started the car and the car would not come out of 'park'. She depressed th shift lock button but to no avail. Somehow someone got it into gear and it is operating now. But I feel this problem may return as the car was not repaired. I have used her car on several occasions in the past. The shift knob already had a problem of occasionally 'popping out' when shifting. Somehow, I feel the two problems are interrelated.
Does anyone have an opinion on this ?

the prob is most likely the ignition switch try turning the ignition switch back just a lil bit after you start the car that should do it don't turn it back so far that it turns the car off tho
