driver's headlight intermittent

my wife has a 2000 V40
i've looked through the old posts but didn't see anything that fixed my problem.

i have checked the fuse (driver's side engine bay -10amp) and bulb.
i checked my headlight assembly wiring-it looks intact.
i pulled all the relays under the driver's dash (the ones in the engine bay are labeled and don't mention lights)-none seemed to make any difference to the headlights...does this car not have headlight relays? i've looked for them online to purchase - nobody sells them that i could find...

i'm not consistently getting 12v to the center headlight plug wire at the back of the driver's headlight assembly (according to my multi-meter), but if i bang on the dash (240 style) it will come back on temporarily.

i am going back out and start checking continuity of the wiring harness...but it'd be REALLY great if there was something else to check before i start wiring up a redundant circuit to get this going.

thanks in advance for any ideas,
-chad

RE: driver's headlight intermittent

if i put my meter between the fusebox in the engine bay and the center conductor of the headlight connector- it shows no continuity, then if i bop the dash - the meter will start beeping (signifies good circuit)
i can't hear any clicking like a relay that just freed up (but i am beating on stuff), so i guess it is just a bad connection someplace?

Maybe headlight switch?

RE: driver's headlight intermittent

hmmm, do you think it'd have outputs for each headlight?

lemme take a look at it (i've got the dash halfway apart so it should be pretty easy)

thanks for the reply!

Possible but not 100% sure.

RE: driver's headlight intermittent

i checked the switch, there is one output for both headlights and it seems to be working OK. i disassembled it and cleaned/regreased the slider contacts in the fog/headlight switches while i was in there...fwiw

the problem persists.

i saw on another model (v70, i think) forum thread that these "shunts' were possible suspects (pic included) is this a possibility? how on earth do you get them out of there?

thanks for helping me with this!

The V70 is a different setup.

If you have a little bit of time I will check the wiring diagram and let you know in the morning.
