"S" & "W" buttons on console
Hi, I just got a 2000 V40 a few days ago & am loving it. It had no owners manual, so I have a bid on one (ebay) In the mean time can someone tell me what those two buttons are? They are by the shifter, & I have played around a little with them, but I can't seem to notice what they do. Thanks!!

W is for "winter" or "wet" which starts the auto trans in 2nd gear for less wheelspin. S is for "sport" which sets the shift points higher in the lower gears.

It actually starts in 3rd. Tough on the tranny, use only when absolutely necessary. Traction control usually is adequate for most slick roads if you use a light foot.
Text from owner's manual: W Winter/Wet mode Enhanced Vehicle Traction This mode may be selected for starting/moving off on slippery roads. In this mode: · In position D*, the gearbox starts in 3rd gear and changes up to 4th gear. · In position 3*, 2nd gear is locked and there is no change up to 3rd gear. · In position L, 1st gear is locked. * These positions always offer the kick-down function. |
