Hello,

Can anyone clue me in on how to remove the stereo in a 2000 V40? I need to get the serial # for the anti-theft code.

On the front sides of the radio buy the Preset buttons you will see a small rectangle peice on each side.
Push it in it will release then pull them all the way out and the radio will slide out.

thanks. I was pretty sure those rectangle tabs were the key to removal, but I wasn't pushing them in far enough to release. Plus, it just sounded too easy. Guess I'm still used to older vehicles were you have to practically rip the dash apart to get the radio out. A popsicle stick did the trick and left no scratches.

Here's some info concerning resetting the code that might be worth remembering. The guy I bought the car from had been given the wrong code by the dealer. So, after three attemts with the wrong code, the radio (SC-816) displays "OFF". Then you have to let it set with the key and radio on on for two hours (according to the manual)until it displays "CODE". Don't give up if it doesn't happen in two hours. Mine took over 8 hours. I was already looking on ebay and about ready to bid on another stereo when I thought I should check it one more time. It was on "Code", I had the right code from the radio serial #, so all is well. I also had a battery charger hooked up on the last attempt, which the dealer recommended.
