Automatic transmission problem.

I recently bought a V50 2004 2.4i With automatic transmission. it had an engine failure, that I new about. So i got a new “used” engine with 150’000 km and it works perfectly fine. But I noticed really bad looking oil in the gearbox as I was changing the fluids. But used the grearbox anyway and as I was mounting it to the new engine I broke off the pins that are maching with the converter unit, that I realized only when I lost the gears during the test drive over 80kmh...

So i decided to get a new “used” gearbox with converter from a junk yard. The oil in it was nice and red, It was driven 160’000km so I was happy until I turned on the car... It now shows an error “ Transmission service required”
And there is a loud sound coming from underneath the pan where electronic parts are located on the gearbox, it goes quiet when put in Drive.

When put in reverce it has a stong kick.

Seems like it is only driving in 4gear. that’s what I see in the diaplay. and it doesn’t allow to manually shift gears.

I was wondering if there is an electronic issue that I could solve by using parts from my old gearbox?

I don’t feel like buying another gearbox and doing the crazy 12h job again, without guarantees..

Any advice and help will be highly appreciated!

Read the OBD codes to see if that tells you anything else. Better would be to hook up a VIDA unit (allowing you to really dig into the transmission's electronics). With at least an OBD code, I suspect you'll be pointed in the right direction.

I wonder if the new tranny is exactly the same as the original. If not, your problems could be an incompatibility between the transmission control computer and the transmission itself (I can't say offhand which trannies work with which TCMs, but I suspect that info is out there on the 'net somewhere).

Swapping out a bad shift solenoid isn't really difficult
but if something is being loudly activated in the valve body when the car is in park, I'm thinking it is a control issue, not a bad solenoid.

Thank you for info! I will hook it up to the computer tomorrow and see what comes out.
The new tranny is at least with the same Code AW55-50SN
