Need Help With my 2006 V50 In EVERETT, WASHINGTON

Hi, im having issues with my 06 V50. What happen was i was at a gas station in seattle. I was getting out of the car to fill up and i had a lady in the back of me, she asked if i could pull up to the station further up so she could fill up her car. So i got in with my door open tried to start my car and noticed my steering wheel locked and it says STEERING FAILURE and Immobilier problem or something. Aftet that i had the car towed i read some forums and it said that the steering lock went out, so i took the factory one out and bought a brand new volvo steering lock but it seems to do the same thing. Any help or anyone in the everett, washington area that could fix this or reprogram it or what ever it would need would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this car out of my garage someone please help. Thanks.

You had the dreaded SCL (Steering Column Lock) failure. It's not uncommon. The good/bad news is that you probably could have just dropped your steering column cover and smacked it with a heavy object and gotten it working again - at least temporarily. If you still have your old one, you can try cleaning and lubing it and reinstalling it (I used some spray carb (I think...) cleaner and then some spray lithium grease, and reinstalled it, and it's been working like a champ ever since.

Or, you can have the car towed to a dealership and have them program the SCL module. I checked, but didn't find anyone who said they could do it mail-order, so you're kind of on the hook with the dealer on that one.

If you're worried about getting stuck, you could always just leave the SCL bungied up under your dash so you can pull it down if it jams up again.
